Toyota’s strategy in Australia is shifting: while hybrid and plug-in hybrid offerings remain core, battery-electric vehicles are becoming more prominent. As we move through 2026, here are the key Toyota electrified models to watch.
The bZ4X is Toyota’s first large-scale dedicated battery-electric SUV in Australia.
- It uses the e-TNGA platform and is marketed with all-electric driving in mind.
- An update earlier this year brought a larger 74.7kWh battery, up to 591km of range (WLTP), making it a strong choice for those ready to move away from petrol or hybrid only.

Now in showrooms, the bZ4X Touring builds on the proven performance of the bZ4X, adding a layer of refinement, comfort, and advanced technology.

As Toyota’s flagship BEV SUV, the bZ4X Touring represents the top of the range for drivers seeking performance and luxury without tailpipe emissions.
One of the most anticipated new vehicles in Toyota’s line-up, the HiLux EV is set to arrive in Australia in late 2026. It retains the same work-ready toughness the model is known for, with an electric powertrain engineered for both performance and practicality.
Features:
- Dual-cab configuration for commercial and private buyers in SR and SR5 grades
- Dual-motor all-wheel drive producing 144kW and 468Nm
- Braked towing capacity of 2000kg, below the 2500, below the 3500kg rating of the diesel HiLux
- Fast-charging capability and practical driving range - 315km (NEDC) for pick-up models, or 245km for the SR cab-chassis
- Rugged chassis design suited for off-road and worksite use

Alongside its new BEVs, Toyota also introduced its first plug-in hybrid RAV4 in late June 2026. The RAV4 PHEV combines Toyota’s sixth-generation plug-in hybrid technology with a 22.7kWh battery, allowing for EV-only driving on shorter trips and petrol efficiency on longer journeys.

- Ideal for drivers not yet ready to go fully electric
- Up to 121km of EV-only range (WLTP) in the XSE 2WD, or 113km in the AWD grades
- Offered in XSE 2WD, XSE AWD and the new flagship GR Sport AWD, from $58,840 plus on-road costs

Toyota’s electrified expansion won’t stop there. By mid-2027, the range will grow again with the arrival of the all-electric Toyota C-HR, a sleek compact SUV built on Toyota’s dedicated BEV architecture.
The C-HR BEV will feature:
- A 74.7kWh battery and front-mounted electric motor producing 165kW and 269Nm
- A targeted range of over 500km per charge
- Over 500km of estimated range per charge
- DC fast charging from 10–80% in around 30 minutes
- Toyota’s latest multimedia and safety technologies
- A stylish, aerodynamic design inspired by the Hammerhead concept
This new model will sit just below the bZ4X in size, giving drivers another premium yet compact electric option—perfect for city commutes and everyday driving in Perth. With the C-HR BEV joining the line-up, Toyota will offer one of the most diverse electric ranges in the country, covering everything from compact SUVs to rugged workhorses.
