Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) is your built-in co-pilot—a suite of active safety technologies designed to help you avoid accidents and drive with greater confidence. Whether you're navigating Perth traffic, reversing out of a tight car park, or cruising down the highway, Toyota Safety Sense is working quietly in the background to support you.

Here’s what it includes, how it works, and how you can make the most of it every day in models like the C-HR, Corolla Cross, and bZ4X.

Pre-Collision System (PCS)

PCS uses a forward-facing camera and radar to detect vehicles, pedestrians, and sometimes cyclists. If a potential collision is detected:

  • You’ll receive audio and visual warnings.
  • If you don’t brake in time, the system can apply the brakes for you.

Everyday use: You might not even notice it—until you need it. For example, if a car ahead brakes suddenly in traffic, PCS can step in to help prevent or reduce the impact.

Lane Departure Alert (LDA) & Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)

  • LDA alerts you if you begin to drift out of your lane without using your indicator.
  • LTA goes further by gently guiding the steering to help keep you centred in your lane, especially on highways.

Everyday use: Long road trip? LTA can help reduce fatigue by maintaining lane discipline, especially during subtle distractions.

Road Sign Assist (RSA)

This feature reads certain road signs and displays them on your instrument cluster. It can alert you to:

  • Speed limits
  • Stop signs
  • No entry and other key signs

Everyday use: Ever miss a speed limit change while chatting or focusing on directions? RSA gives you a helpful reminder right in front of you.

Automatic High Beam (AHB)

AHB automatically toggles your high beams on and off based on oncoming traffic and street lighting conditions.

Everyday use: No more blinding other drivers or forgetting to turn your high beams back on. AHB handles it all while you focus on the road.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)

This adaptive cruise control keeps a set speed like regular cruise control but adjusts to maintain a safe following distance from the car ahead.

Everyday use: In freeway traffic, DRCC reduces the need to constantly brake and accelerate. Great for peak-hour drives or country road trips.

How to Activate and Adjust Toyota Safety Sense

Most TSS features can be toggled and customised via your multi-information display (behind the steering wheel) or the multimedia system settings.

Final Thoughts

Toyota Safety Sense is about more than just avoiding accidents—it’s about making you feel safer and more in control every time you drive.

With its smart combination of alerts, automation, and driver support, TSS is designed to assist—not replace—you behind the wheel. It’s everyday peace of mind, built right into your Toyota.
