There are some events that sit beyond a calendar entry. The Toyota Golf Classic, held annually at Joondalup Resort, is one of them.

Now in its 18th year, this is a day of golf, good company and genuine purpose. Since the event first teed off in 2008, it has raised more than $850,000 for Neuromuscular WA, an organisation that provides free support services to Western Australians living with muscular dystrophy and neuromuscular conditions.

New Town Toyota is proud to be part of the Toyota WA community that makes this event possible, and we want to take a moment to share why we think it matters.

    What Is Neuromuscular WA?

Neuromuscular WA supports Western Australians living with muscular dystrophy and a wide range of neuromuscular conditions. These are conditions that affect the muscles and the nervous system, causing progressive muscle weakness. There is currently no known cure.

Approximately 40,000 Australians live with a neuromuscular condition. For many of them and their families, navigating a diagnosis is an enormous undertaking. Neuromuscular WA provides the kind of support that makes that process less daunting.

    Their services include:

    • NDIS navigation and support to help people access their entitlements
    • Counselling for individuals and families affected by a diagnosis
    • Advocacy to protect the rights and wellbeing of members
    • System navigation to help people understand and access the services available to them
    • Social programs and community events that reduce isolation
    • Education and information resources for members and their families

Critically, all of these services are free to members. And membership itself is free. Neuromuscular WA exists to make sure that a diagnosis does not mean navigating the system alone.

    Why Events Like This Matter

Fundraising is what keeps those services available. The Toyota Golf Classic has been doing that work quietly for nearly two decades, and the cumulative impact of $850,000 in funds raised is real: it means more people accessing counselling, more families receiving guidance, and more Western Australians with neuromuscular conditions getting the support they need.

It is also an event with genuine community spirit. Golfers, businesses and sponsors come together around something that matters, and that combination, good people, a great venue and a meaningful cause, is what keeps the day on the calendar year after year.

Come and Be Part of It

Whether you are a regular on the fairway or someone who uses a golf cart for transport rather than technique, the Toyota Golf Classic is a genuinely enjoyable day out with a purpose that goes well beyond the scorecard.
