The Toyota HiLux BEV Is Coming. Zero Tailpipe Emissions. Full HiLux Capability.
Toyota is about to do something genuinely exciting. The HiLux BEV is arriving in Australia in May 2026, bringing zero tailpipe emissions to one of the country's most trusted and capable utes. Whether you're managing a fleet, running a business, or simply ready to make the switch to electric, this is a vehicle worth paying close attention to.
Priced from $74,990 plus on-road costs*, the HiLux BEV will be offered as a double-cab with dual-motor AWD in two grades: SR and SR5.
The HiLux BEV runs on a newly developed 59.2kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The front motor produces 82kW and 206Nm, while the rear motor delivers 129kW and 269Nm. Combined system output sits at 144kW, with torque distributed variably between the axles for capable, confident traction.
Pick-up variants are rated at 315km of driving range on the NEDC cycle^3^, with the SR cab-chassis rated at 245km^4^. These figures reflect testing conducted across a wide range of conditions, including real-world trials on Australian mine sites in temperatures close to 50 degrees.

Breaked Towing Capacity
The HiLux BEV supports 150kW CCS2 DC fast charging, taking the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes. For overnight or workplace charging, 10kW three-phase AC charging can take the battery from 10 to 100 per cent in approximately 6.5 hours*
This is not an electric vehicle that has had off-road capability added as an afterthought. The HiLux BEV features its own uniquely developed suspension system, with frame reinforcements, a beefed-up MacPherson strut front setup, and a De Dion rear leaf spring arrangement that accommodates the rear motor while retaining the live axle configuration of the traditional HiLux.
Toyota's Multi-Terrain Select system gives drivers six traction modes for low-grip situations, while ventilated disc brakes and regenerative braking combine strong stopping performance with energy recuperation. Maximum braked towing capacity is 2,000kg across the entire range^5^.
For businesses and government fleets looking to reduce tailpipe emissions without sacrificing the workhorse reliability the HiLux is known for, the BEV presents a compelling option. Toyota developed this vehicle with mining, construction, and government fleet operators specifically in mind, backing that commitment with an extensive real-world testing programme.
Add Toyota's national parts and servicing network to the equation and fleet managers have a genuinely practical path to electrification, supported by infrastructure they already know and trust.
Both grades are well-appointed. The SR includes LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, smart entry and start, a 1,500W inverter in the centre console, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch multi-information display. Wireless Apple CarPlay^7^ and Android Auto^8^, embedded satellite navigation^6^, DAB+ digital radio^9^, and a pair of USB-C ports front and rear are also standard.
The SR5 adds leather-accented upholstery, heated front seats, a powered driver's seat with two-way lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, LED foglamps and tail-lights, an eight-speaker audio system, and a wireless phone charger^10^.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the range, covering autonomous emergency braking, dynamic radar cruise control, lane trace assist, rear cross-traffic alert, road sign assist, and automatic high beam^11^. A panoramic view monitor and front and rear parking sensors are included on pick-up variants.
