Going Electric with Confidence: Marc LeCras Reviews the Toyota bZ4X
A New Take on Toyota Reliability
The bZ4X brings Toyota’s trusted reputation into the electric era. With a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, plus an additional 5 years on the battery when you complete annual health checks, it’s backed by confidence you can count on.
Marc and Dom cover everything from servicing to long-term support—explaining how the Toyota EV service scheduleis simpler and more affordable than many expect, with capped price servicing at just $180 per visit.
bZ4X vs RAV4 Hybrid: Which One’s for You?
One of the biggest questions Perth drivers are asking is: Should I choose the bZ4X or stick with the RAV4 Hybrid?
In this review, Marc and Dom break it down—talking through key differences in drivetrain, charging, range, and driving feel.
Whether you're looking at a dual-motor AWD with 160kW output and up to 411km WLTP-rated range, or prefer the front-wheel-drive model with up to 436km, the bZ4X proves that electric can meet real-world needs.
Of course, it’s still packed with the Toyota tech you’d expect, including:
Wireless Apple CarPlay® & Android Auto™
Self-parking capabilities (Advanced Park Assist)
Toyota Safety Sense with active cruise control, lane trace assist, and pre-collision detection
Charging Made Simple: Just Always Be Charging
Dom introduces his new life motto—ABC: Always Be Charging.
While the bZ4X is designed to go the distance, topping up regularly ensures you’ve always got the range you need—whether it’s a last-minute trip across town or a weekend down south. Like any EV, regular charging helps keep your battery at an optimal state and avoids range anxiety.
Here’s how long it takes to charge your bZ4X:
At home with a 7kW single-phase wall box: approx. 9.5 hours from 10% to 100%
With a 3-phase 11kW charger: approx. 7 hours
Using a 150kW DC fast charger: approx. 45 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%
The bZ4X supports both AC charging via a Type 2 plug and DC fast charging via CCS2, giving you flexibility whether you're at home or on the go.
With Toyota Connected Services, you can also manage your charging remotely via the myToyota Connect app—making it even easier to stay topped up and ready to drive.
Built for More Than Just City Streets
Think EVs are just for the suburbs? Think again. The AWD bZ4X comes with:
- Crawl Control, just like the Prado
- X-Mode with multiple drive settings for varied terrain
- Toyota’s trusted electric AWD performance, ready for light off-roading or weekend adventure
Marc was surprised by how capable it felt—and how natural the drive was. “It still feels like a Toyota,” he said, “just quieter and cleaner.”
