Discover the LandCruiser 70 Series in 2025
Few names hold as much weight in Australia’s outback and worksites as the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series. With a heritage spanning over four decades, the 70 Series remains a symbol of unshakable strength and simplicity, and now it’s been refined for the demands of modern-day drivers.
What’s New for 2025?
In 2025, the LandCruiser 70 Series Troop Carrier enters a new era—retaining everything drivers love about its durability, while expanding choice with a brand-new five-speed manual transmission for the 2.8L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine.
After farewelling the long-serving V8 in 2024, Toyota has introduced this manual option to meet demand from drivers who prefer the control and familiarity of a manual gearbox—especially those in rural, remote, or high-torque-use scenarios.
Here’s what’s new:
- A manual option is now available on the 2.8L four-cylinder turbo-diesel Troop Carrier WorkMate and GXL, joining the six-speed automatic.
- The manual delivers 150kW and 450Nm, with gearing optimised for outback conditions: shorter lower gears for take-off, and a longer fifth for quieter highway cruising.
- A new flywheel with a 12-inch clutch and triple-synchronised first gear improves shift quality and durability.
- A dust seal at the rear end plate protects from debris in harsh environments—ideal for sand, gravel, and red-dirt roads.
Compared to the discontinued V8 manual, the new four-cylinder manual offers better torque delivery and lower emissions, without sacrificing towing or off-road performance. It’s a purpose-built evolution, not a compromise.

The first choice for serious outback adventures
When it comes to remote travel across Australia’s toughest terrain, no vehicle has earned its reputation quite like the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series Troop Carrier—affectionately known as the Troopy. It’s the vehicle of choice for everyone from off-grid explorers and outback tour guides to emergency service crews and desert-bound tradies.
In 2025, the Troop Carrier continues to deliver what it always has: unmatched durability, real off-road capability, and the space to pack for anything.
Built for WA’s Toughest Jobs
From the wheatbelt to the Pilbara, the LandCruiser 79 Series Single and Dual Cab models are the go-to workhorses for WA’s farmers, graziers, and miners. Known for their heavy-duty build, full-time 4WD, and 3,500kg towing capacity, they’re built to haul, climb, and carry through conditions that would leave lesser utes behind. With options like custom trays, differential locks, and the latest 2.8L powertrain, it’s no wonder the LC79 remains the backbone of so many regional operations. If you need a ute that shows up every day and never backs down, this is it.

LandCruiser Troopy: Designed for the Long Haul
The Troopy’s extended wheelbase and flat, enclosed rear cargo area make it one of the most versatile setups on the market. Many owners fit it out with:
- Dual battery systems
- Custom drawer kits
- Fridges, rooftop tents, and water tanks
- Slide-out kitchens or recovery gear mounts
Because of its boxy, straightforward design, the Troopy is easy to modify and even easier to live out of. That’s why it’s a favourite for remote-area travel, self-sufficient touring, and serious overland builds.
Hard to Find. Worth the Wait.
Did you know the LandCruiser 70 Series Troop Carrier is one of the hardest Toyotas to find in stock across Australia? Demand regularly outpaces supply—especially for well-specced GXL variants—thanks to its reputation for long-distance reliability and rugged capability. Whether it’s for touring, work, or fit-outs, the Troopy doesn’t sit in yards for long. If you see one available, act fast—or better yet, chat to us about securing yours.
Looking for a V8 LC70? Pre-Owned is the Way to Go
If you’ve got your heart set on the legendary 4.5L V8 turbo-diesel, your best bet in 2025 is the pre-owned market. While new V8 Troop Carriers have now wrapped up production, New Town Toyota regularly receives Toyota Certified Pre-Owned LandCruiser 70 Series models—including hard-to-find V8 variants. Backed by Toyota’s rigorous inspection process and capped-price servicing, it’s a smart way to secure one of the last of a dying breed. Speak to our team if you’re chasing a V8—we’ll keep an eye out for the right one.
